Duz dis look rite? By Mrs. C

I hate when people spell words wrong. HATE IT! I think with the dawn of texting, people have gotten into the habit of spelling words either the way they sound or with numbers. Ugh! Examples of this new crisis: hunny, enuff, bousta, wid, l8er, 2 U, 2nite, and the list goes on. I am a spelling and grammar fanatic! I love language! And I hate that it's been butchered almost beyond recognition. I think the "new spellings" of words make people look dumb. And even worse, the use of this "language" has only encouraged kids to write that way in school! I have seen papers that make absolutely no sense. The new spellings are doing a complete injustice to kids, because they don't know how to spell the real words. So bye bye college applications or essays-- what college is going to let a student in that can't even spell "enough" right? My English teachers would have beat my back for language like this!!!

I adamantly refuse to use this new language. I respond in only proper language for two reasons: 1. It's the correct way to speak, and I prefer to write correctly, and 2. I prefer to lead by example. I think it's so sad that there are high schoolers who can't spell correctly or use the right words (to, too, two)...Of course, that's for another blog, along with young kids who have cell phones.

  1. Thumbs up! So true!

Pple shtn ^ wrds n eft 2 txt fstr. I text in word so it's faster for me to text the full word. I hate though when people still type this way when they have a full keyboard in front to them.

  2. I know why people started shortening words for texting, but now it's used for way more than texting. I read an essay by a 5th grader where she used text language for nearly the entire thing, and the essay wasn't about texting. I was appauled that she received a B on a paper that was not even written correctly, and the assignment did not include writing in text language. It was as if the teacher was accepting this new language and encouraging it. Sorry, but I would've returned the paper and told the student to put everything in correct language and spelling. Standards, standards, standards!
